AMMCO Tools Inc. and its successor firm, Hennessy Industries Inc., are responsible for the mesothelioma death of a Los Angeles-area automotive parts store owner, a jury in the Los Angeles County Superior Court has ruled. An AMMCO-brand brake grinder emitted asbestos dust from brake shoes that led to the death of the store owner in 2012, the jury decided Aug. 3. The store owner was first exposed to asbestos dust in the early 1960s when he worked with AMMCO brake grinders in various Southern California automotive supply houses, according to a press release from plaintiffs’ attorneys Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. When he opened his own business in 1971, he installed his own AMMCO brake grinder there, according to the release.
