Mount Sinai offers novel treatment for abdominal cancer

Edina Van Staveren has a promising prognosis thanks to a novel treatment for complex abdominal cancer available in Ontario only at Mount Sinai Hospital. Known as hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, or HIPEC, it is used in combination with aggressive surgery to treat select patients with appendix, colon or bowel cancer, or peritoneal mesothelioma, which is a cancer of the abdominal lining.
