You may not know this, but the after-hours GP home service set up in 2005 by the Howard government to relieve pressure on emergency departments is under review by the Turnbull government. In the past financial year, 695,715 NSW patients used the service, and research by Deloitte argues it saves federal, state and territory governments about $724 million a year.
