Rome, September 30 – The National Asbestos Observatory said Wednesday it has documented a rise in asbestos-related illness and death. ONA has documented over 4,500 cases of mesothelioma – a rare and almost always fatal form of cancer most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos – over the past three years, and 20,629 cases in 1993-2011.
