Meso Experts to Gather for a One-Day NYC Conference

A one-day conference focusing on patients, families, doctors, and others wanting to know and understand more about malignant mesothelioma will be held in New York City on September 27, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF) has announced in a press release.

The regional conference, entitled “Knowledge is Hope”, will be held at the Harvard Center and will feature some of the most prominent names in mesothelioma treatment and research, including Dr. Lee Krug, Dr. Raja Flores, Dr. Harvey Pass, Dr. Andreas Rimner, and several others. Hospitals and cancer centers represented by this prestigious group of professionals include Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Mt. Sinai, NYU Medical Center, and Somerset Medical Center. The doctors will also be joined by Mary Hesdorffer, executive director of MARF.

Topics covered at the conference may be of interest not only to doctors and researchers trying to tackle this difficult-to-treat form of cancer but also to patients and those who support them in their struggle against mesothelioma. Sessions will highlight subjects such as standard treatments, ongoing research, environmental/occupational exposure risk, and legal implications.

The conference in New York City is just one of several such events hosted each year by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. The non-profit organization strives to find philanthropic support to “fund peer-reviewed mesothelioma research; provide patient support services and education; and advocate Congress for increased federal funding for mesothelioma research.”

To date, the organization has garnered more than $8.2 million and awarded the funds to researchers striving to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for malignant mesothelioma.
