Barry Knowles worked as a builder and handled asbestos materials all his life, so he was not surprised when he was diagnosed with mesothelioma. But the former member for the Pilbara, Larry Graham, who helped close down Australia’s largest blue asbestos mine at Wittenoom, said the real surprise was that Mr Knowles was still alive.
